2010 World Asthma Day Poster Winner

Asthma is a chronic condition affecting an estimated 24 million Americans, with an
alarming 55% increase in the death rate over the last 20 years.  The World Asthma Day
Celebration and poster contest is designed to generate  public awareness for asthma and
its terrible consequences if not treated properly.  Children ages five to fourteen entered
their artwork.  The posters were up for display and judged at the Peyton Manning Children's
Hospital at St.Vincent for two weeks in early April.

The Annual World Asthma Day event occurred on Saturday, April 24th in the lobby of the
Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital, located at 2001 W. 86th Street.   Our grand
prizewinner's poster will be displayed on a billboard in their neighborhood donated by Clear
Channel Communications, Inc.  Artwork is also used to help educate the community about
asthma through a child's eyes on presentations, t-shirts, note cards, and more.

The Asthma Alliance of Indianapolis was pleased to present the 2010 World Asthma Day
Poster Contest winners.  All winners received a savings bond and certificate of their
accomplishment.

The winners of the contest were:

About the Asthma Alliance of Indianapolis

Our Mission

The mission of the Asthma Alliance of Indianapolis is to arm individuals affected by asthma with the knowledge and skills to improve health and quality of life.

·       EDUCATE

·       ADVOCATE

·       SERVE

The Asthma Alliance of Indianapolis (Alliance) has been active since 1997 and consists of health care professionals with varied backgrounds, including pediatric medicine, nursing, respiratory therapy, social work, and environmental health.

A multi-disciplinary approach to asthma education, prevention and treatment allows comprehensive support to the local community.

A letter taken fromA Chronicle of Progress :

On behalf of the Marion County Health Department, I am proud to share this report on the accomplishments of the Asthma Alliance of Indianapolis. As director of the Marion County Health Department, I appreciate the partnerships that make the alliance a vibrant health resource for Marion County residents.

This report chronicles and celebrates the progress made by the alliance in educating our community about asthma, how to manage asthma and how to create and sustain environments that protect all of us, and especially those with asthma. The emphasis placed on education by the alliance has been especially beneficial to those who might otherwise not have access to information on asthma symptoms and the variety of available treatment options.

Since 1997, the Asthma Alliance of Indianapolis has dedicated itself to providing critical educational services to Marion County residents. As we approach our first decade in the community, there remains much work in ensuring our families have access to information and services to maintain control of this chronic disease.
