School Education / World Asthma Day Committee (Minutes)

World Asthma Day

Meeting Minutes: Sept. 6, 2008  

Location: MCHD

In attendance: Robin Costley, Jose Romero, Ellie Lindhjem, Cecelia Walton  

·       2007 Summary

  • This years WAD was one of the most successful and one of the highest attended. 160 Individuals received Asthma education and support.
  • Information shared by Robin and feed back from participating schools. Each school expressing excitement for the 2008 year and anticipate higher participation rates.  ( YEAH)
  • Comments and suggestions for improvement: Actions Being Taken

1.      Larger facility needed: Cece will check with other possible sites. ( Ruth Lilly Ed. Center, Art Museum, Children’s Museum, Herron School of Art.

 2.      Target schools and students as the focus.

3.      Keep the education focus with the individual stations.

4.      Laminate poster entries for easier maintenance and care, as well as to provide to family or school at completion of WAD: Robin will assess and budget, Committee will provide man power to laminate posters at the MCHD.

5.      St. Francis Hospital has volunteered to participate in the judging of posters. This will help provide wider coverage for participation: Cece has reserved the main entrance for viewing and judging

6.      We will move the Poster entry deadline to March 1 st.: Robin will make changes to current flyer to update 2007 winner and the earlier date for entry deadline.

7.      The posters will be displayed at Payton Manning Hospital for 1 week and then at St. Francis Hospital for 1 week.

8.      We will reevaluate how participation certificates will be provided: by age groups/ class room/ or schools ( Goal to have group pictures for schools)

9.        Goals to Mail out Contribution letters in January: Committee Action. 

·       Summary: We will continue to share ideas on a monthly schedule. ( Dates to be announced at the August Alliance meeting. It has been decided by the committee members present that we will share ideals as a committee via email or conference calls to save on gas mileage and decrease time needed for participation.  Thank you, everyone that participated and made World Asthma Day 2007 a Huge Success. Please, join us with your thoughts and input. Each school, child, and parent which we share information with brings us closer to our goal of reaching our communities.
