Discuss AAI focus for 2012: What does AAI want to accomplish

  • Home visits referrals and school support continues to increase in numbers. Many members refer their patients and clients to the tailored environmental home visit program.
  • Lisa Cauldwell stated that as a group there has not been much done, and most responsibilities have fallen back on Robin. She suggested other’s step up to offer help.
  • Cecelia Morris-Walton has suggested that we could try a couple times a month were we are available a couple of times a month where we donate time to be available to the community for an actual resource spot, not sure if it is possible, but suggested us teaming up with the community and networking. At least AAI would then have a presence and be a resource, where people can come to us to get information.   This would help get the word out about the services and resources that we can provide. Cecelia stated that she would be willing to do some of the homework on this. Suggestions were made from group such as targeting neighborhood coalition meetings.
  • Danette Farris suggested that the AAI create a section on our website for frequently asked questions or a blog to provide our expertise on-line. There would be a sign-in section for members only to control information placed on website.
  • Governance of the AAI was brought to the table again. The election process was brought up, and it was decided that this form of governance is not working. The members are not able to step up to extended time commitments. This is the nature of many coalitions as times and economy has changed. It was decided that the Coalition Manager administered by MCPHD would manage coalition activities and coordinate quarterly meetings. A task force manager that elects him or herself to the cause and forms a task force committee for the time it takes to complete the initiative will direct any other tasks that the coalition decides as a group. We will be run by majority rules, however Robin as Coalition Manager will support and delegate.
  • Goals for 2012 focused on professional education. A couple of suggestions were made on topics such as the Medical Home Model, Pediatric Environmental assessments in physician practices.   American Lung Association is putting together another 2012 Lung Health Expo. Danette Fariss and Robin Costley have volunteered to be on the planning committee. We will bring back to the coalition information regarding possible collaboration with ALA and pooling our resources.

 Website

  • Still trying to find a member that would be interested in coordinating the AAI website. A new member is interested and Robin will be meeting with her to encourage her assistance. The website changes could be more timely and updates could be made. Perhaps a system for communication on what members want on the website.   More discussion to follow.

Grants

  • EPA grant for the Tailored Environmental Home Visit Incentive Program began in August. The first group of follow up surveys has been returned with improvement of ACT scores with environmental interventions.
